Yawn IS Board

  1. What is a Yawn IS Board?

A Yawn IS Board is a living mental model that connects your present situation, a possible future, a chosen move, and the change you observe. You can use it for a house, a project, or a question you care about.

Working mental model · open to correction

An IS Board is a living mental model of something you care about: what is here, what could be, the move you choose, and what you observe afterward.

Talk your IS. A house. A project. A question you can’t leave alone. Start with what is happening, then give the next possibility somewhere to live.

    What is here right now?

Describe the situation in your own words. Keep what you noticed separate from what you guessed.

    What could this become?

Give the possibility a shape: a mood, a future, a way of being. A wish is welcome here as a wish.

    What will I try?

Choose one small move within your control. Say what you expect before finding out.

    What actually happened?

Return to the observation. Keep surprises, no change, and unwanted results in the picture too.

    Don’t let this die.

Some ideas matter before we know what to do with them. Leave a return signal: why this matters, the next question, and when you want to revisit it. Save the board so the thread has somewhere to resume.

When I come back, the question I don’t want to lose is…
    • Time-jump

The question behind the board: how do we feel more alive while life is moving so fast?

    • Lacuna map

The unanswered questions, current evidence, and what could change the model.

    • Interception

Notice a reaction, open a choice, make a move, and inspect the consequence.

  2. Why is IS emphasized in Yawn IS Board?

IS means the situation you can describe now. Dave’s wordplay starts with a bored robot and turns what you tell it into a board you can revisit. Your description remains your perspective, open to correction.

Yawn was bored. Then you said what IS.

Picture a little robot called Yawn, sitting there with nothing to do. Then you turn up and say: okay, here’s what is. Here’s this thing I’m trying to work through. Now there’s a question. A direction. Something to build together.

That’s the wordplay: yawn is bored. Yawn IS Board. The IS matters. This moment. This input. This is where the model begins—not at some perfect future where we finally have it figured out.

A mood board gives a possibility a shape. A future board gives it a direction. A being board asks how you want to be inside it. An IS Board keeps those possibilities beside what is actually happening, so the picture can change when life answers back.

I want us to feel more alive while we’re here. To look back in six months and have something richer than, holy shit, where did that go? The board is a place to begin exploring that question. It gets more useful when we return, compare, correct, and choose again.

And when there’s tension between us? Someone says something, someone looks a certain way, and suddenly we each have a story. “Yawn is bored” could be a playful invitation: let’s put our IS on the board. What did I actually notice? What am I reading into it? What would you correct? We can look at the two pictures together and choose a next move without pretending they already agree.

An edited expression of Dave’s idea, grounded in his September 9, 2026 request.

  3. Can an IS Board slow down how time feels?

That is a hypothesis to test, not an established benefit. Presence, felt passage, and remembered richness can move differently. Subjective time experience is distinct from physical time dilation.

Still open: Would the practice change felt passage, later recall, both, or neither compared with an ordinary start?

Can this help life feel less like it is disappearing?

Dave’s hypothesis is that noticing the present and returning to meaningful observations may help people feel more alive and remember their time more richly. Whether this board helps is an open question.

    Presence
How present did I feel during this experience?
    Felt passage
How slowly or quickly did the time seem to pass?
    Remembered richness
What distinct moments can I recall afterward?
    Chosen action
Did I do the move I chose, and what happened?

Presence, felt passage, and later recall are different outcomes. Research can find greater present awareness alongside faster felt passage. Here, “time dilation” names a subjective experience or metaphor; this board makes no claim to alter physical time.

“A yawn is a state change operator” is Dave’s metaphor and a hypothesis to investigate. An optional count records naturally occurring yawns; there is no instruction to force a yawn. A count alone cannot show that yawning caused a change in time experience.

Dave reports that study preparation and paperwork are underway. Supporting protocol, review or registration status, and results are not yet verified here. The collector is a personal observation tool; it does not enroll visitors in a study.

  4. Does yawning change our perception of time?

This project has not established that. Dave proposes investigating yawns as a possible state-change signal. Recording naturally occurring yawns beside observations can help pose a better question; it cannot establish causation by itself.

  6. How is an IS Board different from a mood board or vision board?

It can hold a mood or future vision, then connect that possibility to the present, a chosen action, and an observed result. Dave also calls the perspective on how you want to be a being board.

  7. How can an IS Board help two people who disagree?

It can give each person a place to separate an observation from an interpretation and invite a correction. For example: observed—“You looked away while I was speaking.” Inferred—“I wondered whether you disliked my idea.” Question to ask—“What was happening for you, and what am I missing?” Each person can describe their own view, decline the invitation, or propose a next move. A board cannot read someone’s mind or establish agreement on their behalf.
