Dave's personal meaning

A greeting, a coupling in a relationship, and sometimes an agreement—or the continuation of one. I think of the physical gesture and the meaning we bring to it together. That is where this model starts.

Personal experience

I have met people where we both went in firmly and squeezed each other's hands, almost playing a game of who could squeeze harder. That physical exchange is part of what a handshake means to me: two people engaging, each responding to the other. It is my example, not a rule for how another person should greet me.

Personal interpretation

For me, the gesture can carry the seriousness of an agreement. Someone else is there, and what happens between us matters. The gesture may express a commitment, but we still need to say what we are agreeing to, and each person needs room to understand and choose.

Dave's metaphor

I picture humanity saying hello to that other object hanging in our sky: a place we had never been, and then we went there. The image captures reaching beyond the familiar. I am using a first step as a metaphor for an encounter; the Moon is not literally making an agreement with us.

Through the questions I choose, the examples I connect, the propositions I accept, and the gaps I leave open. A grip, an agreement, a first step, a dream: their relationships show something about how I make meaning. Someone else can inspect that perspective and build a different one.

A handshake does not mean the same thing to everyone. We need to ask what the other participant means, what each side accepts, and what remains undecided. Private source stays separately provisioned; publishing this expression does not grant anyone authority over the underlying record.
