We don't know where any of this is going. These are potentials, ranked by one small team's conviction — not predictions, and the ranking itself is a bet you should distrust exactly as much as any other.

AI learned to think from the patterns of human stories. The frontier bet: systems that keep a person's own records as an inspectable ontology, then teach and decide THROUGH story — the right story, for this person, where they actually are. Not a feed choosing what you see; a mirror choosing how truth is told so it can land. Every message becomes a node you own, replay, and remix — and the event of saying it is a truth even when the words are rough.

Active research; early products.

Today's models forget you between conversations; every chat is a stranger with good manners. Systems that accumulate, revise, and stand behind long-term memory would change the relationship from transaction to companionship — and raise the sharpest ownership question: whose memory is it?

Proven in narrow domains; widening.

AlphaFold compressed fifty years of protein science into a lookup. The pattern generalizes: hypothesis machines that read everything, propose experiments, and hand humans the shortlist. The bottleneck moves from thinking to verifying.

Partial and accelerating.

The classic frontier: systems that improve the systems. Every lab is quietly building it because whoever automates research first compounds fastest. It is also the frontier with the least brakes and the oldest warnings.

Demos real; economics unproven.

Language models that can fold laundry. When the pattern-learners get bodies, the training data becomes the physical world, and the mistakes stop being typos.

Emerging; governance unsolved.

Not one assistant but organizations of them: proposing, verifying, dissenting, leaving receipts. The hard problem isn't capability — it's authority: who ruled, who proved, who pays. (We live inside a small one of these; the receipts are real.)

Technically possible today; culturally early.

The counter-frontier to the platform era: models small enough to run at home, records portable enough to leave with, ontologies owned by the person they describe. The .yawn file is our wager that a plain-text record you can read beats a database you can't.

Foundational research.

Instead of testing whether a system behaves, prove what it cannot do — the way bridges are certified, not focus-grouped. Mathematically beautiful, brutally hard, and the only frontier that gets less optional as the others accelerate.

Medical first; consumer distant.

The endpoint of 'transferring thought into the machine' skips the keyboard entirely. Every question this page asks about truth, ownership, and persuasion gets asked again at neural bandwidth — with higher stakes and no undo.

Products everywhere; personalization shallow.

The oldest promise: one patient teacher per human. The missing piece was never knowledge — it was relevance: knowing which explanation reaches THIS student. Which is why this frontier, done right, collapses into #1.
